DISEASE INFORMATION
Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) belongs to the serine protease superfamily. It is a primary regulator of plasminogen activation. A common single nucleotide insertion/deletion in the promotor region of the PAI-1 gene has been identified and is related to circulation PAI-1 concentrations, whereby the 4G allele shows highest PAI-1 concentrations.
